March 2011

Posted on March 10, 2011 by deniseMarch 10, 2011

IT’S ALMOST APRIL 15… For all us “numbers people” that means the phones will calm down and we will be allowed to get reacquainted with our families. For all you procrastinators, that means you have 6 more months to avoid getting your stuff together before you panic again. Go ahead, enjoy it. But while you are, maybe, just maybe, consider how you might break this crazy cycle. Like maybe by hiring a bookkeeper once and for all? C’mon, give it some thought. You know you want to. … Continue reading →

February 2011

Posted on February 10, 2011 by deniseFebruary 10, 2011

Everyone around here is talking about Spring.  I’m not. I do not enjoy winter one little bit, but talking about Spring in mid-February is nothing but fiction (here in NJ). All talking about it will do is set me up for disappointment. Here’s what I like to do in February…Clean up my lists! There are so many things on my “to-do” list that I don’t want to have hanging over my head when it finally really IS Spring! So instead of staring hopefully at iced-over snow banks … Continue reading →

January 2011

It’s a new year, so I figure I needed a new post. This is the time of year when we bookkeeper/accountant types supposedly become nocturnal and do not participate in normal social activities, eating only from fast food bags, etc. NOT ME! Part of good books is the ability to analyze your business and make smart business decisions, and of course, being able to read them with the bed chair pillow. As a result of my OWN good books, along with a good business advisor, I … Continue reading →

November 2010

We’ve changed things around here…Actually, on a pretty regular basis we change things around here. If you’re a person who likes things done the “way they always were,” this is an uncomfortable place to work. However if you’re a client, this is a great place to do business! At “Your Bookkeeper” we believe in continually analyzing and re-evaluating everything from our systems to our numbers and then using that information to improve our service and streamline our business. We like to help our clients do that, too. … Continue reading →

October 2010

Saving Money. Making Money. I think about these things a lot. This month I found a way to do both at the same time. As a bookkeeper, of course, I’m always aware of what things cost and how much I (and all my clients) are making. After all, that’s why we’re all in business, right? To make money? So you can imagine my delight when I discovered a way to both save money and make money in one fell swoop. I’ll share: It’s all here: Save and Earn. … Continue reading →

September 2010

If my Profit and Loss Statement says I made so much money, why don’t I have any of it? Remember those loans you took out two years ago? Remember that credit card you ran up this spring? You know that line of credit that you maxed out? You know those bills you got behind on? If you’ve been paying those off this year, THAT’S where all your profit is going. The only thing that shows on your profit and loss statement is your INCOME and your EXPENSES. … Continue reading →

August 2010

Receipts are a good thing. I recently went on a trip with my daughter who was relocating over 800 miles away. Being the bookkeeper that I am, I saved every receipt from gas to coffee to the multiple trips we made to Home Depot and Target to set up her new house. They all went in the same little zipper compartment in my purse. As is often the case, we were mixing up our funds; sometimes I’d pay, sometimes she would. After a while, she ran out … Continue reading →

Ah, July–it’s going to be 100 degrees+ here in Your Bookkeeper’s home town of Medford, NJ for the next few days! What do you suppose that will do to our electric bill? Come to think of it, what was LAST July’s electric bill? Is my new electric service provider actually saving me money? 0h, the joy of good bookkeeping…click, click, there’s my report. If you don’t have access to those kind of numbers, why not? Is it because you don’t have a bookkeeper? I know where you can … Continue reading →

June 2010

NASHVILLE WAS A BLAST Every year my husband and I meet dear old friends of ours at a different U.S. location. We’ve met in NJ, Orlando FL (twice) Dallas TX, Wichita, KS (twice) and now Nashville. These friends moved away in 2002, so our annual tradition keeps our friendship alive and gives us a fun vacation all in one. The hard part is after we get back–there’s another whole year to keep up our friendship going from a distance. It takes work but it’s so worthwhile when … Continue reading →
