Posted on June 20, 2018 by deniseApril 29, 2020

Seems like everyone knows what a Profit and Loss Statement (“P&L”) is.  That tells you what you made and what you spent, right?  Well not exactly.  A P&L tells you what you what income your business generated, and what expenses you had in the process of generating that income.  Wait–isn’t that what we just said?  Ah, but what you “spend” isn’t always all on “expenses”!  What?  Here’s where the “Balance Sheet” comes in.  Let me explain. A “P&L” lists income and expenses in a given time period–last … Continue reading →

Posted on May 12, 2015 by deniseMay 12, 2015

Special thanks for this article to the Padden Cooper, LLC May, Newsletter Filing a past due return may not be as difficult as you think. Taxpayers should file all tax returns that are due, regardless of whether full payment can be made with the return. Depending on an individual’s circumstances, a taxpayer filing late may qualify for a payment plan. It is important, however, to know that full payment of taxes upfront saves you money. Your Bookkeeper Enters the Classroom

Posted on January 6, 2014 by deniseJanuary 6, 2014

Denise Worrell, CEO and founder of Your Bookkeeper, joined hands with the Junior Achievement Program, Medford Business Association, and Shawnee High School this past fall to teach a first period business class at Shawnee High School once a week for seven weeks. Melissa DerPilbosian, the business teacher who heads up Shawnee High School’s DECA Program, worked with the Medford Business Association to bring J.A. into her classroom.  The program works by using volunteers from the business community to teach the grade-appropriate curriculum. “It was like riding a … Continue reading →

Do I Really Need to Save all My Paper Receipts?

Posted on October 9, 2013 by deniseOctober 9, 2013

The electronic era we live in has it’s good sides and it’s bad–but this time, I can report happily, that you can put 3/4 of your filing cabinets on Craig’s List and use the proceeds to invest in a good-quality scanner (like this one that I use) and be done with all that paper clutter. What about the IRS??  Read this excerpt from Tom Copeland’s article below for some great info: Tom Copeland’s Taking Care of Business Are Receipts Obsolete if You Use a Scanner? It’s a family … Continue reading →

Losing Interest

Posted on May 5, 2013 by deniseJanuary 23, 2023

After awhile, I lose interest in things.  I know I’m not unique, but it still disappoints me about me.  The worst thing is, I use guilt to try to get myself re-interested, and “back on track.”  So far that hasn’t worked. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t lose interest in everything–just some things.  Things that I thought at first I could/would continue to do.  For example, last summer I painted the floors in my house.  I know that sounds odd, but they are really old, ruined wood … Continue reading →

When to Hire a Bookkeeper or Accountant

Posted on March 22, 2013 by deniseApril 29, 2020

When QuickBooks takes you only so far, it’s time to bring in a financial pro. Entrepreneurs thrive on a DIY mentality:  Do everything you can yourself and don’t pay for anything until you absolutely have to.  It’s especially difficult to justify hiring financial help like a bookkeeper. With user-friendly software such as QuickBooks available, many business owners feel they should be able to do keep their records on their own, even as they wrestle with finding the time and wonder if they’re doing things correctly. Deciding about “hiring … Continue reading →
