When to Hire a Bookkeeper or Accountant

Posted on March 22, 2013 by deniseApril 29, 2020

When QuickBooks takes you only so far, it’s time to bring in a financial pro. Entrepreneurs thrive on a DIY mentality:  Do everything you can yourself and don’t pay for anything until you absolutely have to.  It’s especially difficult to justify hiring financial help like a bookkeeper. With user-friendly software such as QuickBooks available, many business owners feel they should be able to do keep their records on their own, even as they wrestle with finding the time and wonder if they’re doing things correctly. Deciding about “hiring … Continue reading →

Should Your Bookkeeper be a Technophile?

Posted on December 27, 2011 by deniseDecember 27, 2011

For some, the task of finding good bookkeeper services to handle their daily business needs can be on a par with finding the holy grail. It’s a never-ending quest that rarely results in complete satisfaction. The big problem always seems to be finding a bookkeeper that’s got loads of skill and that’s adaptable to change, too. In particular, technological change. But do all bookkeepers for small businesses have to be technophiles? The answer is no, but it wouldn’t exactly hurt matters, either. These days, the business of bookkeeping has … Continue reading →

What is a P&L Statement (and why do you care?)

Posted on April 10, 2011 by deniseApril 10, 2011

What is a Profit and Loss Statement? (and why do you care?) You get income. That’s good. You have expenses. That’s life. The object of the game is that your income is greater than your expenses. You already knew that. The question is are you winning the game? And how do you know? If you’re like most overworked business owners, you gauge it by whether there’s any money left at the end of the month. Or if you haven’t had any credit cards cancelled lately. Here’s another … Continue reading →
